The Brunswick House Renovation

On Harbord Village, a historically designated Boulevard, The Brunswick House. stands out. In 2017, Liz Gabaldo helped to transform the Victorian detached home. The complete interior renovation paid tribute to its history with period elements meticulously reproduced, juxtaposed with modern pieces. The final design is a unique reflection of the client and their specific, sophisticated style.

There are inherent challenges that arise while working within an older home, and The Brunswick House was no exception. The home was originally a rooming house, and the previous owner began to turn it into a single-family home before selling. When the house was purchased, some demolition had begun, but had not been completed. Having worked with the owner on various properties across the Greater Toronto Area, Liz renovated the home from top to bottom, completely gutting the historic property to modernize, refresh and bring the client’s vision to life.

The renovation included an updated living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, basement, family room, guest room and laundry room, essentially a refresh of the entire home. Liz included custom cabinetry throughout the kitchen and bathroom from AyA Kitchens and Baths, white oak flooring and porcelain tiles. The master bedroom suite features a dressing room and spa-like ensuite bathroom. Bringing in finishings, including baseboards, trims and moldings, that were a nod to the home’s history, Liz and her team were able to completely refresh The Brunswick House while paying homage to the home’s long history in downtown Toronto.
