Hamilton, ON

Coppley Manufacturing Ltd.’s bespoke suits have been made in downtown Hamilton for over 130 years. When it was time to upgrade their manufacturing facilities, the team worked with Black Point Development on its new 73,000 SF downtown site, located at 107 MacNab St. N. and not far from their original historic site. mcCallumSather completed the core and shell design for its new location. The craftspeople at the heart of the company formed the inspiration for our design.

The design uses honed finished grey block and a polished charcoal concrete block on the base. The windows have striking black frames, set off amongst the mix of two metal siding treatments, a bright silver bent chevron profile and secondary rounded corrugated profile in a charcoal shade. The materials layer in front and behind one another alluding to suit layering and provide a dynamic quality to the façade. It is a mix of complementary materials that come together to tell Coppley’s unique story, set in this mixed urban environment.
