The Sibling House
Designed as a Canadian getaway, the design of Sibling House has a timeless, cozy style befitting of its Collingwood surroundings. The four seasons home acts as beach getaway in the summer and ski chalet for winter, while also accommodating the couple’s large family for reunions and holiday gatherings when the couple is in the Country.
The 3,000 sq. ft. heritage home they chose is the perfect backdrop, originally part of a pair of matching homes designed for two sisters. Located along the historic Third Street, the home retains its heritage character with original detailing and its flooring refinished and restored where possible. It gives the home a warm, authentic feeling.
Design and function were important to the couple. Therefore, this historic charm was paired with modern features that suited their style and vision for life in the space.
The new open layout on the ground floor, features a two-way fireplace between the formal living room and large kitchen areas. We added a new Bulthaup Kitchen and large island. On the upper floor, we removed all exterior drywall ceilings, exposing the structure of the roofline and refinished it with tongue and groove planks. Having transformed the study into a family area, we added a gas fireplace. As a family home for all seasons, we added a mudroom area, complete with wooden benches and lockers.
We added a new stair to the master suite located in the basement and enlarged the bathroom creating a unique sunken bathtub design. Throughout the home, we updated all washrooms with modern finished and elevated style.
