Uquutaq Society Butler Building


The Uquutaq Butler and 158 Building developments are two affordable housing projects in Iqaluit, Nunavut designed for local housing provider Uquutaq Society. Uquutaq Society’s mission is to provide culturally sensitive, safe, healthy and dignified housing solutions and supports for homeless people in Iqaluit.



Elements of the new building designs draw inspiration from a minimalist modern design look and will be structured on an elevated pre-engineered metal system building. The developments are designed to feature multiple barrier free accessibility units and will aim for a high energy efficiency design. The Butler  Building is a three-storey development comprised on 27 single room occupancy dwelling units as well as ground floor resident flex-space. Located on 803 Aiviq St in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the design features services such as laundry rooms, lounged and shared spaces.
