West Lincoln Memorial Hospital PDC
The community of West Lincoln, Hamilton Health Sciences and its PDC team were so committed to the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, that not even a pandemic would slow our progress. We adapted with new means and methods for virtual collaboration, producing conceptual renderings as part of the planning scope. The PDC team moved from a Stage 1 submission to a Stage 3 submission in the MOHLTC process, in what we think is record time for the design build finance process.
“It’s exciting to continue working with this community,” said Joanne McCallum, co-principal in charge. “This is such a tight knit community, and there’s such a need for this new hospital. We have enjoyed being part of this exciting, and at times unexpected, process helping to advance this vision.”
Working with B+H, mcCallumSather’s focus was to deliver a facility conceptual design tailored to Grimsby and the needs of its community, working closely with the design team to enhance the urban design and respect the main street context. We worked to define the context and requirements to match the vision for this important cornerstone institution. In the process, we balanced the requirements for a functionally optimized healthcare facility with the surrounding heritage context, residential scale and unique materiality. The actual design is yet to be determined by the project consortium that is awarded the design and construction scope.
Municipal approvals played was a cornerstone of our scope. The new hospital design is bigger than the current hospital, therefore mcCallumSather made the application for minor variance that will allow for the increased height.
