Excitement on Barton Street in Hamilton Tuesday [December 9th] with the opening of new long-awaited homes for Black and Indigenous seniors who face homelessness.
The city says this is one project of many aimed at tackling the housing crisis.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, 412 Barton St. was given a new lease on life.
“It means a sense of hope for people. It gives them back a sense of hope they may not have otherwise had,” says Justin Lewis, Director of Hamilton’s Housing Secretariat.
The project, spearheaded by St. Matthew’s House and built by New Commons Development, offers subsidized affordable housing to fifteen seniors.
