Hamilton, Ontario – June 26, 2014: Phase One of the new Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) Boris Clinic celebrated its grand opening on June 23, 2014. Designed by McCallum Sather Architects Inc. (MSA), the Boris Clinic is based on a new model of healthcare delivery derived from Cleveland clinic examples, offering the Hamilton and surrounding areas an innovative adult outpatient internal medicine clinical teaching unit – the first of its kind in Canada. This $8.2 million project combines a number of specialties into one area to deliver a superior healthcare model that is patient-centred, timely, and easy to navigate.

Phase One of the Boris Clinic is part of a three-clinic development located at McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC). The integrated approach to the Clinic facilitates the integration of physicians, learners, and researchers – allowing for communication and patient flow between general and specialized internal medicine. A centralized registration and booking process, and strategically located waiting and sub-waiting spaces throughout the Clinic allow patients to progress through the general to specific clinics with ease and efficiency. The successful design of the Boris Clinic was the result of a very positive collaboration between the architects and the clinicians, physicians, researchers, and staff.

In addition to MSA’s role as Prime Consultant, the in-house mechanical division of MSA, MSE, is responsible for the mechanical design of the entire project. MSA has been a leader in healthcare planning and design for nearly two decades. This experience has earned the firm the reputation and recognition of being a trusted partner in the healthcare sector. From the firm’s head office in the Golden Horseshoe, MSA has successfully led many exciting healthcare projects, such as the Masterplan and Phase One of the HHS Emergency Department renovations, MUMC Labour and Delivery Department renovations, and the Hogarth Family & Pioneer Energy Ophthalmology Centre renovations at McMaster Children’s Hospital. We have also been involved with the design of major new builds including the North Hamilton Community Health Centre (in association with Parkin Architects), HHS Regional Rehabilitation Centre and Acquired Brain Injury Hospital, and the David Braley Cardiac, Vascular, and Stroke Research Institute (both in association with Parkin Architects).
