mcCallumSather is celebrating Mary Georgious, Principal and leader of the firm’s Mechanical Engineering team, as the 2025 recipient of the Joanne McCallum Sustainable Catalyst Award. The award was first introduced in 2023 to recognize a team member whose actions serve as a catalyst for sustainable change and carries forward Joanne’s dedication to sustainable leadership in all aspects of her work and life. This award rewards and incentives the firm’s staff to always keep sustainability top of mind.
While the award was first announced on April 17 during mcCallumSather’s Building for a Living Planet event, Mary was formally presented with the honour during a staff toast at the firm’s Hamilton office on May 5. The award was presented by Director and Board Chair, Drew Hauser.
Mary Georgious has consistently pushed the boundaries of sustainability within complex building typologies. Her leadership has opened new markets for the firm, particularly in decarbonization initiatives with municipal and regional clients. Her commitment to designing highly energy-efficient environments and mentoring peers throughout the process exemplifies the spirit of the award.
“Mary not only walks the talk—she inspires others to think bigger, to challenge assumptions, and to work with intelligence and intent,” said Joanne McCallum during the announcement on April 17. “She has fearlessly led the charge in creating highly energy-efficient environments and complex building typologies, and has never ceased to share and mentor the lessons learned.”
The Joanne McCallum Sustainable Catalyst Award is presented biennially to a team member who sets ambitious goals, drives innovation, and shares their knowledge to amplify the firm’s vision and impact. Mary Georgious embodies each of these qualities, making her a deserving recipient of this meaningful recognition.
