Town of Grimsby
Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre
Opportunity
The existing Peach King Centre was designed primarily as an arena and no longer reflected the full spectrum of recreational, wellness, and community needs in Grimsby. Programming was limited, circulation was constrained, and the building offered little flexibility to support a growing and increasingly diverse population. Accessibility, visibility, and user experience were also challenges, particularly as expectations for inclusive, multi-use civic spaces continue to evolve.
This project presented an opportunity to reimagine the facility as a true community hub; one that could support multiple generations, expand recreational capacity, and create new opportunities for community connection.

Response
A new addition introduces a double gymnasium, walking track, fitness and youth spaces, and multipurpose rooms, while renovations strengthen the existing arena.
A reoriented entrance and light-filled lobby improve visibility, circulation, and user experience. Durable materials, a high-performance envelope, and an all-electric strategy support long-term performance and position the building as Net Zero–ready.
The site is reorganized as a connected campus, improving pedestrian flow and linking the facility to surrounding parkland and civic amenities. Delivered through a phased construction management approach, the project maintained operations while enabling a more resilient, adaptable community space.
