Westinghouse HQ recognized by National Trust for Canada’s Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award

We are honoured to have worked as part of the Westinghouse HQ team, who is being recognized as a Transformative Project by the National Trust for Canada’s Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Awards.

Established in 2013, these awards honour projects and sites in two categories: exemplary commercial, institutional or mixed-use projects (transformative projects); and places that demonstrate exemplary heritage stewardship and long-term sustainability (resilient historic places). With these awards, the National Trust also recognizes the people who have contributed to the successful regeneration of historic buildings and sites across the country.

Westinghouse HQ serves as a teaching tool; the project represents an outstanding example that embraces the philosophy of high-performing green spaces both in Canada and beyond. This project has been a labour of love, and through a deep personal investment and understanding of context, the project has been exceptionally well received by the public.

The original details of this heritage building are celebrated throughout the space. Marble mosaic, terrazzo floors, steel trusses, exquisite plaster ceiling mouldings and speed tile have been salvaged and restored. Our intent was to reuse and expose as many original building characteristics as possible, allowing material authenticity and durability to shine, while juxtaposing them with modern systems and finishes creating a unique, open, flexible, and agile workplace.

Westinghouse HQ is an anchor in the community. Electric City Developments and the restoration team were captivated by the iconic building and saw it as an opportunity to help revitalize the area, bringing long-term value to the community. To read more about this award, click here.
