Matt Bolen, a Managing Principal at mcCallumSather, is immersed in combining his deep understanding of conventional construction with advanced research and innovative development initiatives. With a focus on multi-residential building design, Matt’s expertise bridges across small-scale urban fill, to mid-rise, to multi-phased high-rise development.
Licensed as an Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects, and certified as a Passive House Designer, Matt’s passion lies in leveraging innovative techniques like mass timber, DFMA panelization, modular construction, and high-performance design to create sustainable and functional built form.
Matt was a founding partner of Edge Architects in Kitchener, ON, which was acquired by mcCallumSather in 2024. During his time with Edge, Matt led several impactful projects, including CLT (cross-laminated timber) affordable housing developments, rapid housing initiatives for supportive services groups, condominium developments, and mixed-use adaptive reuse project, showcasing his commitment to socially responsible architecture.
Further to his role as a principal at McCallumSather, Matt is a lecturer at adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. Matt is himself a graduate of Waterloo Architecture where his Master’s thesis was focused on urban revitalization of mid-sized cities using Kitchener-Waterloo as a case study city.
