Kitchener, ON
The Walter Apartments
Opportunity
This contemporary mid-rise apartment building was one of the first significant multi-residential redevelopments in Kitchener Ontario’s evolving Midtown District. The building comprises 38 new dwelling units, structured indoor parking, and outdoor amenity spaces. The project represents a successful example of realizing mid-rise, transitional density on lands designated for densification adjacent to established residential neighbourhoods.
Response
Significant time and energy was invested by the project team to engage with the City and neighbourhood stakeholders in order to achieve a design solution that was efficient, durable, and cost effective for the client while also being sensitive to the style, massing, and character of the existing built context. Our team was tasked with investigating several options for the building structure before ultimately selecting a hybrid steel and concrete system.
