Opportunity

This two-phase, five-storey mixed-use development comprises 84 new affordable dwelling units as well as ground floor community amenities. Located at the intersection of Bridgeport Road and Lancaster Street in Kitchener, Ontario, the development is situated on the site of the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Response

Elements of the new building design draw inspiration from the original mid-century modern structure. Working closely with client MennoHomes, and user groups from Parents for Community Living and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the programme and eventual building design were developed. The development is designed to meet strict barrier free accessibility and energy efficiency guidelines as set out by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation National Co-Investment Fund.
